NIGERIA MEMORIAL. part 5*

NIGERIAL MEMORIAL

... With days and months approaching January 15th, Major Chukwuemeka Kaduna Nzeogwu
Explored beyond the Areas sorrounding the official Lodge of the Northern Region Premier: the Sardauna of Sokoto Ahmadu Bello, Collecting Vital informations by Observation and other detection methods, and duely Noted the premier's security formation and movements... This, Nzeogwu did, by often taking his men on a night-time training exercise known as “Exercise Damisa.”.. the Military Boys who took part in Exercise Damisa were at ease participating in these military exercise as they saw it as a routine military training but unknown to them it was a actually Major Military Training to stage a military coup to overthrow the Government.

 - COUP D'ETAT

In the early hours of January 15th 1966, Nzeogwu turned “Exercise Damisa” into a full-blown military coup. NOTE: Nzeogwu, Not trusting soldiers from the 2nd Brigade in Kaduna whose commander; Brigadier Ademulegun, was a personal friend of the Sardauna and one of the corrupt Nigerians Marked for Death, Involved very few of them in the coup and more young soldiers from the Nigerian Military Training College in Kaduna to carry out the coup.

 ****** January 15th 1966,

HOW MAJOR KADUNA NZEOGWU MURDERED AHMADU BELLO

In the wee hours of the morning, Nzeogwu led a group of soldiers into a Bush opposite the Premier’s Lodge. there and then, Nzeogwu informed the men of their real mission: to attack the Premier’s Lodge.  Nzeogwu and his men blew open the gates to the Sardauna’s lodge. Nzeogwu found Bello hiding with his wives and Personally Shot and Killed the Northern Region Premier: the Sardauna of Sokoto Ahmadu Bello, his faithful bodyguard one of his wives who tried to shield him with her body.  Nzeogwu determination to see the coup through showed how fiercely committed to the coup he was and he was the only one of the coupists able to execute his mission in the north with 100% precision.

Brigadier Samuel Adesujo Ademulegun

HOW MAJOR TIMOTHY ONWUATUEGWU MURDERED BRIGADIER ADEMULEGUN

Major Timothy Onwuategwu, was the second of the two Majors in charge of executing the coup in the North. He was a ruthless soldier. He led a group of soldiers to Brigadier Ademulegun’s house while Major Kaduna Nzeogwu Was finishing up at the Sardauna's Lodge., Onwuategwu matched straigth up to Ademulegun's Bedroom and shot him dead in his bed, along with his wife who was also in Bed beside him.

COLONEL SHODEINDE's DEATH

That same day 15th January 1966, The head of the Nigerian Military Training College, Colonel Ralph Shodeinde was also killed. The truth about his death remain unclear. it was rumoured that His wife testified that he was shot by several soldiers including Majors Nzeogwu and Onwuategwu.  Other accounts claim that a grenade was tossed at him. truth is; Nzeogwu couldn't possibly have been involved in Shodeinde’s death since presumably he was pre-occupied at the time with killing Ahmadu Bello. and wasted a fine time doing that. So that leaves Major Onwuatuegwu with the responsibility of Shodeinde’s murder.

The Majors’ bloodlust is one to reckon with. After Killing his commanding officers and their wives he also led a detachment of soldiers and met up with Kaduna Nzeogwu at the residence of the Governor of the Northern Region: Sir Kashim Ibrahim and Both Majors Placed Sir Kashim Ibrahim under arrest, and he co-operated with their instructions and was not harmed.

**When released, Ibrahim vouched that he had been treated with utmost respect by the men who abducted him.

 HASSAN KATSINA HASSAN KATSINA,

who was the commander of the 2nd Recce squadron in Kaduna was spared during the bloodbath due to his familiarity with Nzeogwu and his personal life and open friendliness with the troops and junior officer may have also been a reason for him being excluded from the majors' hit list.!

...stay tuned for more! NIGERIA MEMORIAL
